Effects of Late Night Eating: Does It Cause Weight Gain or Is It a Myth?
Late night eating alone doesn't cause weight gain, fat loss or gain still depends on total daily calorie intake. The don't eat after 6 or 8 PM rule is a myth, your body doesn't automatically store evening calories as fat. Some people sleep better on a lighter stomach, others feel better with an evening snack, both can work. The problem with late night eating is that many people unconsciously overeat at this time on top of calories consumed throughout the day.

What foods should I eat in the evening if I'm hungry?
Not eating in the evening only helps with weight loss if it results in consuming fewer total calories daily. If you used to snack at 9 PM and consumed 300-500 extra calories on top of your daily budget, eliminating it creates a deficit. However, if you simply shift these calories to daytime meals, you won't lose weight faster. For some people, the no evening eating rule helps structure meals and avoid unconscious overeating. If skipping evening eating causes excessive hunger and you overeat the next day, it's counterproductive.
