Free Fasting Tracker Chrome Extension
What is the GetFIT App's Free Fasting Tracker Extension?
This is a standalone Chrome Extension built by the team behind GetFIT App. It’s a dedicated fasting timer that allows you to start, pause, and log your fasts with precision. The entire app runs locally on your computer. Your fasting history and preferences are stored securely in your browser’s local storage, meaning your data never leaves your device.
Key Privacy Note: This extension is completely separate from the main GetFIT App web application. It does not require a login, and it does not sync data with any server or your GetFIT App account.
Getting Started: Installation & Interface
Once you’ve installed the extension from the Chrome Web Store, pin it to your toolbar for easy access. Clicking the icon opens a sleek, compact popup split into three main tabs navigated from the bottom bar:
- Home: The main fasting dashboard.
- History: A calendar view of your past fasts.
- Settings: Customize notifications and manage data.
How to Use the Fasting Timer (Home Tab)
The Home tab is your command center. Here’s how to track a fast from start to finish.
1. Choosing a Fasting Protocol
Before you start, you can select a pre-set fasting protocol or define a custom goal.
- Preset Protocols: Choose from popular methods like 16:8 (16 hours) , 18:6, 20:4, OMAD (23:1) , or even extended fasts up to 72 hours. The currently selected protocol is highlighted with a vibrant purple border.
- Custom Fast: If you prefer a specific duration, use the Custom input field. Simply type in the number of hours (e.g., 14.5) and click Apply.
2. Starting Your Fast
When you’re ready, hit the large ⚡ Start Fast button. The timer will begin counting down, and the interface will transform into a live dashboard.
3. Understanding Your Live Dashboard
During a fast, the Home tab provides real-time feedback to keep you motivated:
- The Progress Ring: A circular progress bar visually represents how much of your fast has elapsed. The gradient fills from purple to green as you make progress.
- Central Timer: The large
HH:MM:SScountdown shows the exact time remaining. Once complete, the status will change from "Fasting…" to "Completed!"
- Detail Cards: Below the ring, you'll see three cards:
- Elapsed: How long you've been fasting.
- Remaining: Time left until your goal.
- Goal: Your total target duration.
- Running Stats Panel: This section shows your exact start time, target end time, and the protocol you chose.
4. Managing Your Fast: Pause, Resume, and End
Life happens, and you may need to adjust. The action buttons at the bottom change based on your fast's state:
- Pause (⏸): Need a temporary break? The pause function is there if you need it, but note that the timer stops to keep your fasting stats accurate. The progress ring will turn amber to indicate a paused state.
- Resume (▶): When you're ready to continue, click resume. The timer will recalculate and continue from where you left off.
- End Fast (✅): This is how you log a completed or intentionally stopped fast. Clicking it asks for confirmation and then saves the fast to your History, along with the actual duration you achieved, even if you didn't reach the full goal.
- Cancel (✕): Use this if you don't want to save the current fast attempt. This will not log any progress.
5. Celebrating Your Wins
When the countdown hits zero, a celebratory overlay will pop up, congratulating you and showing an "Awesome! 💪" button. You’ve earned it!
Tracking Your Journey (History Tab)
The History tab is a powerful analytics tool that lets you see your consistency at a glance.
- Monthly Calendar View: A typical calendar grid shows each day. Days with a completed fast are highlighted in green, while partial fasts (where you ended early) are marked in amber. Click on any highlighted day to see the details of the fasts you completed.
- Dashboard Stats: At the top, you’ll find aggregate stats for all your logged fasts:
- Total Fasts: The lifetime count of fasts you've completed or logged.
- Day Streak: Your current streak of consecutive days with at least one completed fast. This is a great motivator!
- Avg Length: The average duration of all your fasts.
- Recent Fasts List: Below the calendar, a handy list shows your last 10 fasts for quick reference.
Customizing Your Experience (Settings Tab)
Make the extension work exactly how you want it to.
Notifications
These are smart browser alerts that fire even if the extension popup is closed.
- Fast Completion Notification: A celebratory notification that fires the moment your timer ends.
- Milestone Notification: Get a motivational boost when you’ve completed a certain percentage of your fast. You can toggle this on/off and set the exact percentage (the default is 50%).
Data & Privacy Management
Your data is yours. The Settings tab provides two options to control your local stored history:
- Delete All Fast History: Retains your settings but clears every logged fast from the calendar.
- Reset Everything: A full factory reset. This deletes your fast history, cancels any active fast, and restores default notification settings.
Legal & Disclaimer
As a health-related tool, we include a clear disclaimer: This extension is a convenience tool and does not constitute medical advice. Always consult a healthcare professional before starting any fasting regimen.
