Somatotype Calculator uses the Heath-Carter anthropometric method to calculate your Endomorphy, Mesomorphy and Ectomorphy scores. Enter your height, weight, skinfolds, body girths and bone breadths to get a three-number somatotype rating. The result describes your measured physique characteristics at the time of assessment, rather than assigning a permanent body type. Use the calculator to better understand what the traditional endomorph, mesomorph and ectomorph terms actually mean.

What is a somatotype and what do endomorph, mesomorph and ectomorph mean?
A somatotype is a three-component description of physique based on endomorphy, mesomorphy and ectomorphy. Endomorphy relates mainly to relative adiposity, mesomorphy to musculoskeletal robustness, and ectomorphy to relative linearity or slenderness. The Heath-Carter system expresses these components as a three-number rating rather than placing someone into one permanent body-type category.
How accurate is a somatotype calculator?
A Heath-Carter somatotype calculation can be useful when the required measurements are taken using the correct anthropometric technique. Skinfold thickness, girths and bone breadths can vary depending on exactly where and how they are measured, so measurement consistency matters. For the most reliable result, use appropriate anthropometric equipment and repeat measurements under similar conditions.
Can your somatotype change over time?
Yes, your somatotype rating can change because it describes your physique at a particular point in time. Changes in body fat, muscular development and body proportions can influence the three component scores. This is why endomorph, mesomorph and ectomorph should not be treated as fixed identities that determine what your body can achieve.
What is the difference between an endomorph and an ectomorph?
In the Heath-Carter system, endomorphy represents the relative adiposity component while ectomorphy represents relative linearity or slenderness. Someone can have a relatively higher endomorphy score without being unable to become leaner, and a higher ectomorphy score does not mean that gaining muscle is impossible. The scores describe current physique characteristics rather than setting limits on training progress.
Is being a mesomorph better for building muscle?
A higher mesomorphy score indicates a greater relative musculoskeletal component within the somatotype rating, but it does not guarantee better muscle-building results. Muscle growth is influenced by resistance training, progressive overload, nutrition, recovery and individual biology. Your current somatotype should therefore be treated as descriptive information rather than a prediction of your strength or hypertrophy potential.
Should you use your somatotype to choose your diet or workout?
Somatotype alone is not a strong enough basis for deciding what you should eat or how you should train. Your calorie intake, protein intake, training history, goals, recovery and actual progress are much more useful variables when making fitness decisions. You can use your somatotype as an interesting way to describe your current physique, but it should not replace practical tracking and evidence-based training principles.
