Conicity Index Calculator estimates your Conicity Index from waist circumference, body weight and height using the standard Valdez equation. The result describes how your waist circumference compares with a theoretical cylindrical body-shape reference. A higher value indicates a relatively larger waist compared with that reference, but the index is not a standalone diagnosis or health assessment. Use the result as an informational body-composition metric and consider measurement technique when interpreting it.

What is the Conicity Index?
The Conicity Index is an anthropometric measure that compares waist circumference with a theoretical cylindrical body-shape reference based on height and body weight. It was developed to describe central body shape and fat distribution. The result is a dimensionless number rather than a percentage.
How is the Conicity Index calculated?
The Conicity Index is calculated by dividing waist circumference in meters by 0.109 multiplied by the square root of body weight in kilograms divided by height in meters. The standard equation is CI = waist circumference (m) ÷ [0.109 × √(weight (kg) ÷ height (m))]. The formula produces a single dimensionless index.
What does a higher Conicity Index mean?
A higher Conicity Index means the measured waist circumference is larger relative to the theoretical cylindrical reference represented by the equation. It can therefore indicate a more centralized body shape compared with someone with a lower value. However, the result should not be interpreted as a diagnosis or used alone to determine health status.
Does the Conicity Index use waist circumference?
Yes, waist circumference is the key measurement in the Conicity Index equation. The measurement is entered in centimeters and converted to meters before the calculation is performed. Consistent measurement technique is important because differences in measurement location or posture can change the result.
Does gender affect the Conicity Index calculation?
The original Conicity Index equation does not include a sex-specific coefficient. This means the mathematical calculation itself uses waist circumference, weight and height rather than a separate male or female formula. Gender can still be collected for contextual analysis, but it does not alter the standard equation.
Is the Conicity Index a good measure of body fat?
The Conicity Index is an anthropometric measure related to body shape and central fat distribution rather than a direct measurement of total body-fat percentage. It can provide additional information alongside other measurements such as waist circumference, BMI or body-fat estimates. It should not be treated as a standalone assessment of health or body composition.
